Description

The fourth course in our four-course series, "Building Positive Behavior Culture", focuses on building an open, safe, and welcoming classroom culture and strengthening the social skills students need to create and maintain positive relationships. Teachers will receive practical strategies and activities that you can use in your classroom right away.

Objectives
  • You will learn strategies to create a positive classroom culture in which all students feel safe and free to be involved. You will learn the importance of empowering students to be part of their own learning experience, one in which everyone is welcomed, respected, and valued, and you will learn specific strategies you can apply to build and sustain an inclusive classroom.
  • You will learn that skills such as communication, problem solving, and decision-making support teachers and students in building and maintaining positive relationships. You will spend time exploring how core social skills can transform your classroom culture and how they can achieve tangible results.
  • You will learn how certain behaviors present themselves in the classroom. You will learn the types of actions that can impact social skills, and that social skill challenges can appear in one of three ways: in perception, interpretation, or response. You will also discover the internal and external factors that can impact the performance of a social skill such as anxiety.
  • You will learn practical techniques you can use to build positive classroom culture. You will also learn specific strategies you can use to address social challenges such as interrupting, talking too much, monopolizing conversations, saying inappropriate things, or fidgeting.
